Philosophy

I didn't get where I am today without...

Here's small bit of text heavy philosophy, written late at night. You don't have to read it, but this is a showcase so you might want to know how I work

Photography is a lot about shooting pictures and style, and a lot about the activities that support the production process. In order to be able to produce a great picture that fits the clients needs on the appointed day at the appointed time, a commercial photographer ignores these peripheral activities at his or her peril. I expect you know that, but there is so much that goes into a shoot in preparation for imaging and in what is now becoming more and more like film post production, that we are having to become even more multi-skilled and practical than ever.

I will plan a shoot, normally turn up not only with appropriate photo and lighting gear but also cleaning gear, tools and spares where required. I'll bring the props and/or stylist when appropriate and provide an assistant to lug it all around where necessary. If that doesn't fit the budget, I might do it anyway because I want the right picture.

I usually provide the paperwork to make it all easy, but try hard to work around a customers normal business and be as unobtrusive as possible while getting the job done.

Somehow, self-importance isn't part of the deal, but gentleness, grace, respect and humour are very much.

Terms & Conditions

1. Ownership and reproduction of images produced are governed by the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1989. Rob Jewell Photography (RJP) retains copyright in, moral rights to, and ownership of material produced in all cases.

2. One time reproduction rights only are sold, solely for the use described. Unauthorised use will incur further charges at the discretion of RJP. Rights are non-assignable.

3. RJP reserves the right to vary charges with variations from job details described overleaf.

4. Work will not commence until a confirmation of commission form is signed and returned. In the case that deadlines do not permit this to happen prior to shooting, failure to sign and return the form prior to picture use will result in reproduction rights being withdrawn. Any use thereafter will incur charges at the discretion of RJP.

5. For shoots estimated at £1,000 or over, unless otherwise agreed the client shall pay a non-returnable deposit of 25% of the total estimated prior to shooting, to be deducted from the total cost of the order on completion.

6. Cancellation by the client of a booked shoot within 48 hours of the start of the shoot will incur liability for 25% of the fee estimated for that shoot. Cancellation within 24 hours will incur a 50% fee, with weather days by negotiation. In the case of cancellation by RJP due to accident or sickness liability is limited to the return of any deposit paid.

7. Images will be returned to RJP by the end of the agreed time period, 3 years unless specified otherwise. Any loss of or damage to images supplied will incur charges at the discretion of RJP.

8. Dyes used in colour materials may change in time. Material supplied is not warranted against any change in colour or other integrity. Digital media are not warranted against corruption or other change. Images are not guaranteed to be stored, and if stored not beyond 2 years from the time of shooting.

9. The client shall have 7 days from receipt to reject work. Reasons shall be made clear at the time of rejection and all material supplied shall be returned within 14 days.

10. It is understood that it is the clients duty to obtain any necessary permission to photograph the subject, and RJP will incur no liability from failure to do so.

11. RJP undertakes not to supply identical or similar images to organisations in competition with the client.

12. The invoice period is 15 days from acceptance implicit or explicit of images produced. RJP reserves the right to add 2% per month or part thereof to overdue accounts.
